Erachi pathiri is a delicious meat filled pastry and it is a very popular Ramadan dish. Mutton, Beef or Chicken is used for the spicy meat filling. These deep fried spicy pastries are also a favorite snack on special occasions.Erachi Pathiri

For the dough:

  • Wheat flour (atta)                1 cup
  • All purpose flour (maida)     1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Enough water to knead

For the filling:

  • Minced meat                       250 gms
  • Onions                                2 Nos
  • Ginger minced                     1 tbsp
  • Garlic minced                       1 tbsp
  • Green chillies chopped         6 Nos
  • Coriander powder                1  tsp
  • Chilli powder                        1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder                  1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala                      1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves chopped     1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil enough to deep fry the pastries

Preparation method:

Clean the minced meat and add chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder salt. Cook the meat in a pressure cooker. When the meat is well cooked let the water evaporate. Fry the onions until transparent in a fry pan. Add green chillies, ginger and garlic and fry for 2 minutes. Add the cooked meat, chopped coriander leaves, garam masala and fry. Keep aside to cool.  Make a firm dough by kneading the flours with salt and water. Shape the dough into lime sized balls. Flatten each ball into a round pathiri using a rolling pin. Place meat filling on one pathiri and cover with another pathiri. Press the edges very well to seal the filling.  Deep fry  the pathiris in oil.
